What is Hoop Session?
Hoop Session is a basketball-themed, end-of-summer, celebration for Literacy Playground students in grades 1 – 5. Hoop Session goals:
- Inspire independent reading and set reading goals
- Provide student books for their personal libraries
- Create a day of fun for central Arkansas kids!
Inspiration and Reading Score Big with Moses Moody!
NBA star and Little Rock native, Moses Moody, returned to Hoop Session to encourage and inspire our ballers. His message, “Real Ballers Read”, reminds students of the importance of education and literacy. In 2020 Moody was recruited from the University of Arkansas Razorbacks team during the first round of the draft. An important member of last year’s championship Golden State Warriors team, Moses is also a literacy advocate and avid reader. He loves encouraging students and promoting a culture of reading among basketball players.
Your Community Impact:
- Empowered literacy education programming and prevented the “summer slide” for 220+ children from Pulaski County
- Provided 1200+ books for summer students’ home libraries
- Supported year-round school tutoring support for 600+ children at 32 central Arkansas partner schools and after-school programs
- Mobilized over 300 volunteers who provide 5,000 hours of combined student support
- Created an incredible day for children to meet their very own NBA (and Razorback) Basketball Star!
