Support the AR Kids Read Book Drive!

AR Kids Read is pleased to announce its partnership with Books-a-Million in North Little Rock, Arkansas
for its first ever book drive. During the month of March, Books-a-Million will encourage its patrons to
purchase books that AR Kids Read will donate to students in Central Arkansas.

Pam Houk, Events Coordinator for Books-a-Million, said the store is excited for the chance to help out
AR Kids Read. “There are a lot of causes that we could get behind and we’re constantly asked to do
that, but this is something we’re very excited to do because we honestly really believe in it,” she said.

“There are lots of organizations that say things, but AR Kids Read is really doing it,” Houk continued.

In addition to the book drive itself, AR Kids Read will also host an event at Books-a-Million on Saturday,
March 15th at 10:00 a.m. where customers and their children will have the chance to have story time with
Clifford the Big Red Dog, among other activities.

“We are hoping to make this a community-wide event which will not only help us get books in the hands
of children in need in Central Arkansas, but also involve the entire community in an effort to encourage
children to develop a love of reading,” said Kirsten Elliott, Public Relations Specialist for AR Kids Read.

While any book donation is appreciated, Books-a-Million will be encouraging its patrons to donate books
that are appropriate for second and third graders, the students that AR Kids Read primarily tutors.

Those books will then be donated to Central Arkansas students at the end of the school year to encourage
reading over the summer break.

“While we are not in the business of book distribution, we do think that it is important for students who are
learning to read to have access to grade level appropriate books, especially while they are out of school for
the summer,” explained Charlie Conklin, Executive Director of AR Kids Read.

Individuals or companies that would like to donate but are unable to visit Books-a-Million during the drive
are encouraged to contact Traci Wheelis, Operations Manager of AR Kids Read, for more information. She
can be reached at twheelis@arkidsread.org or by phone at 501-244-2661.
