Spring Break Reading Challenge

When you think about Spring Break, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? Vacation? Relaxing?

Not surprisingly, reading is probably NOT the first thing that pops into your head. But for the children we work with, that time away from school may be a GREAT way to help them learn to ENJOY reading. More than likely, they won’t be given a reading assignment over the break. Therefore, that is a perfect opportunity for them to read JUST FOR FUN! Many of them may have a lot of free time on their hands or may spend a lot of time on a long car ride. What better way to spend that time than reading something “just because”?!

As an adult, I’m always looking for free time to read. Spring Break is an opportunity for our students to develop of love of reading for pleasure. And as most of us are finishing up the spring tutoring session, this would also be a great way to launch your students into summer reading. In addition to the two books that you’ll be giving your students at your final session, you might consider printing this fun page to encourage your children to read not only over spring break, but over the summer.

As each of you know, being an AR Kids Read tutor is more than just helping a child improve their reading skills. It is a way to help those children also develop a love of reading and become lifelong learners. Thank you for the time you’ve invested in the future of these children!
