Coffee and Convo in November

A brief recap of the semester:

As we begin to wind down the first semester of tutoring, we are preparing for our winter book distribution where each tutor gives their students two books to take home to help build their home libraries. We always look forward to this event each year as the students are excited to write their names in the front covers and take them home to share with their families. This year, we are pleased to have 388 tutors serving 800 students. Each of our schools now has a tutor resource bin to support our volunteers. We have also begun the process of providing libraries of high interest books for our tutors to use during their sessions. We have piloted this in 12 schools and received so much great feedback that we would love to be able to do this for all 47 schools. An opportunity to make this happen for more schools in central Arkansas will be coming SOON

Cold weather calls for hot drinks!

We recently hosted several tutor gatherings at coffee shops which gave our volunteers the opportunity to share some of their experiences with each other as well as with us. From Guillermo's in Little Rock to Mug's in North Little Rock, we know how to get our java on in every city, and so do our tutors. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, we're grateful for hot coffee, warm hearts, and good conversation.

We had great conversation, but we couldn't let our tutors leave empty-handed. Our Program Coordinator, Rebekah, used her Pinteresting skills and found a great DIY vocabulary spinner activity that she found to be a fun way to engage students differently. So, we got our team together and made it happen. The tutors loved the idea and we can't wait to hear about how the spinner activity went in their sessions.
