Building with Home Depot & Habitat for Humanity

Last month we kicked off our Building campaign with a big event in downtown North Little Rock. Home Depot kindly donated hard hats for this event to help enhance the vision for the Building campaign-Thank you so much, Home Depot! Though the hard hats were a hit at the event, practically, a literacy organization doesn't really have much use for this gear. Instead of just tossing them, we put our thinking "hats" on.

After the event we partnered up with Habitat for Humanity, a trustworthy organization that would greatly benefit from this donation. Habitat’s vision is of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Habitat works toward its vision by building strength, stability and self-reliance in partnership with people and families in need of a decent and affordable home. Steve Biernacki, Habitat for Humanity ReStore Director, and his team were thrilled to receive a donation that would provide head protection for employees and volunteers working at job sites across the city.

Steve even plans on tutoring with us. So we had to snap a selfie, of course.

Recounting the ways that our community was impacted through a simple donation to an event just makes us realize the great impact a small act of kindness can have on an entire community. Coming together to build stronger readers builds a stronger community.
